SOUND BATHS AT THE SCHERMERHORN Singer and sound healing artist, Davin Youngs is a "true Musical innovator" and "magician of the soul" who believes wholeheartedly in the transformational power of singing, voice and sound. His signature immersive sound healing experience, The RESET is his unique take on a "sound bath." He crafts each experience using improvisational singing, looping devices and sound healing instruments to create a sonic container for restoration, discovery and healing. He has brought The RESET to iconic spaces like Chicago's famed Orchestra Hall, the roof at Ace Hotel, Arcosanti in the Arizona desert and Finney Chapel at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music.

Yoga mat tickets are available on the stage and orchestra flat floor. Please bring your own yoga mat or meditation cushion as this will be on the floor. Sound bath seating is available in theater-style seats around the perimeter of the hall.

Presented without the Nashville Symphony.

Please note that this event has a nine-ticket limit per household. For groups of ten or more, please submit our group inquiry form and we’ll contact you for assistance.

The Reset FAQs

What is a sound bath?
A sound bath is an immersive sonic experience created from various instruments such as singing bowls, gongs, rainsticks, drums and vocals to create a container of sound for participants to be enveloped in. These sounds create vibrations intended to help people relax.

Am I standing, sitting or lying during a sound bath?
You get to choose. Depending on the ticket you purchase for the event, you can sit or lie down. Lying down sections include the Stage and orchestra flat floor.* Seated tickets are available in theater-style seats around the perimeter of the hall.

I know what to wear to the symphony, but what do I wear to a sound bath?
Something comfortable! No need to break out your suit and tie. You will be sitting or lying down in a meditative, relaxed state which may cause you to feel cold. Because of this, you may want to layer or bring a blanket to maximize your comfort during the performance.

What will I experience during a sound bath, and how will I feel after?
Individual experiences will vary, but many people find themselves slipping into a meditative state, deep relaxation or a sense of tension, release and some even fall asleep! After, you may feel energized, sleepy or even emotional. It really depends on your energy and where you are in your physical and mental space in the days leading up to a sound bath. However you feel afterward, honor it. Rest if you feel tired, don't forget to hydrate, and fuel your body with a good meal.

What should I bring to a sound bath?
Maximizing your comfort will help you maximize your experience. Items that may help you get the most out of the sound bath:

  • A small pillow and/or blanket
  • A yoga mat*
  • An eye mask
  • A sweater
  • Any crystals you want to charge in the sound and vibration
  • An open mind

Do I need experience meditating or with a sound bath to attend?
No prior experience is needed. The sound bath leader is there to guide attendees through the process.

Are photos and videos allowed?
Photos and videos are allowed as long as they do not detract from the experience of those around you. We recommended taking photos or videos before or after the performance so that you can be truly present during the performance.

What does the music sound like?
The best way we can describe it is enveloping. It can be dissonant or harmonic. The sound varies during the performance. It could be many sounds at once or a single gong ringing alone. The beauty of a sound bath is that the sound evolves throughout the performance.

Is this sound bath performance appropriate for children?
Just like for adults, sound baths can help children explore their emotions, relax, relieve stress, and learn mindfulness. To ensure a positive experience for everyone, attendees are encouraged to be quiet and non-disruptive for the duration of the performance, which can last up to 90 minutes. For this reason, we recommend this performance for children 14 years of age or older.

*Attendees are encouraged to bring their own yoga mat, blanket, or meditation cushion.
We reserve the right to remove anybody causing disruption to the experience.
