Youth Orchestras

A partnership between Vanderbilt's Blair School of Music and the Nashville Symphony, the Curb Youth Symphony consists of talented young musicians from Middle Tennessee and is conducted by Nashville Symphony Associate Conductor Nathan Aspinall. CYS is open to students in 8th through 12th grades by audition.

Members of this orchestra will have the opportunity to work with both Nashville Symphony members and Blair School of Music faculty members in sectional rehearsals and master classes, and to participate in special joint programs with the Nashville Symphony, including the annual Side-by-Side Concert.

Rehearsals are held Monday evenings from 6:30-9 p.m. at Blair School of Music. The Curb Youth Symphony is endowed by the Mike Curb Family Foundation.

Please visit the Curb Youth Symphony website for more information.

The Nashville Symphony is also committed to providing resources, instruction and performing opportunities for youth orchestras throughout the mid-state region. We have partnered extensively with the Tennessee Youth Symphony and the Nashville Youth Orchestra Program, which includes the Philharmonia and Repertory Orchestras. Some of the resources we have provided include:

  • Sectionals, master classes and workshops by symphony musicians and guest artists
  • Rehearsals and discussion with Nashville Symphony conducting staff
  • Board governance advising
  • Performance opportunities at community events
