Xiao-Fan Zhang

Cello




Cellist Xiao-Fan Zhang has been a member of the Nashville Symphony since 2003. He holds his Bachelor of Music degree in Cello Performance from Guangzhou Xing Hai Conservatory of Music, his Master of Music degree in Cello Performance from the University of South Carolina School of Music, and he has spent three years working toward his Doctor of Musical Arts degree at University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. His principal teachers have included Sumiko Kurata, Robert Jesselson, Richard Kapuscinski and Yehuda Hanani.

As an orchestra musician, Xiao-Fan has performed with the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra, Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Columbus Symphony and Dayton Philharmonic. He has appeared as a soloist with the Guangzhou Xing Hai Conservatory of Music Orchestra and South Carolina Philharmonic. In 2007, he toured Asia with the MTSU Band ensemble, performing concerts in Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hong Kong and Macao. Xiao-Fan is also passionate about teaching. In addition to many years of giving private lessons, he has served on the faculty of Miami University School of Music and the MTSU School of Music, and he joined the faculty of Belmont University’s School of Music in fall 2014.
