Our new singer auditions for the 2022-2023 season will be held at Blair School of Music, 2400 Blakemore Ave. Nashville, TN 37212. Signs will be posted telling you where to go, and parking is available after 4 pm on week days and all day Saturday. We have openings in all voice parts.
Singers should prepare one solo selection (art song, folk song arrangement, solo from an oratorio, etc.; no musical theatre) no more than 2-3 minutes in length. Memorization is not necessary. Each person will sing alone with piano accompaniment before the director. The director may ask about your previous experience and check your vocal range. Each singer will be asked to sight read and/or sing some aural recall exercises. An accompanist will be provided (bring a copy of your music for the accompanist). Singers will also be required to take a short musicianship quiz.
Singers will be graded on pitch, accuracy and intonation; rhythmic accuracy; dynamic control, phrasing, expressiveness, and style; diction and vowel production; and tone quality, resonance, freedom, and control. Vocal range and the volume of your voice are less important factors than accuracy, musicality, and consistency of tone.
Your audition will take place within the hour timeframe of your audition slot. During this time you'll receive information about our chorus and have a chance to ask questions of current members.
NOTE: if none of these audition days/times are available for you, or you’re unable to audition in person please email Tucker Biddlecombe and he will schedule a remote audition with you. Please note that an in-person audition is highly preferred.
Please email firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions - we hope to see you at the end of the month!
