Chorus Auditions

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, chorus activities, including auditions, are currently on pause.

For information about future auditions, please contact Eleanor Roberts, manager of artistic administration, at

Singers should prepare a solo selection (art song, solo from an oratorio, etc.; no musical theatre) no more than 2-3 minutes in length. Each person will sing alone with piano accompaniment before the director. The director may ask about your previous experience and check your vocal range. Each singer will be asked to sight read and/or sing some aural recall exercises. An accompanist will be provided (bring a copy of your music for the accompanist). Singers will also be required to take a short musicianship quiz.

Singers will be graded on pitch, accuracy and intonation; rhythmic accuracy; dynamic control, phrasing, expressiveness, and style; diction and vowel production; and tone quality, resonance, freedom, and control. Vocal range and the volume of your voice are less important factors than accuracy, musicality, and consistency of tone.

Current members must re-audition every two years. Re-auditions are necessary to keep pace with the ever-increasing standards of the Nashville Symphony, which is quickly gaining national and international recognition.

The Nashville Symphony Chorus holds weekly Monday night rehearsals, from 7 to 9:15 p.m., in August through June. Additional rehearsals may be scheduled depending on that season's concert schedule. Dress rehearsals are typically held at the venue where each concert will be performed.
