Chorus Auditions

2024/25 Chorus Auditions

The Nashville Symphony Chorus is holding auditions for new singers in all voice types from July 29 - 31, 2024 at the Blair School of Music at Vanderbilt University. This all-volunteer chorus is the vocal arm of the Nashville Symphony Orchestra, and performs alongside the orchestra in a variety of masterworks and concert events. A high level of proficiency in singing and weekly attendance at rehearsals (Mondays, 7 - 9:15 PM) is expected of all members.

The auditions for the 2024/25 season will consist of:

  1. One prepared solo piece (preferably classical or contemporary art song, but any piece sung in a classical style can be considered) that you will bring two copies of to the audition. This should be a selection that represents your voice in the best possible way.
  2. Vocalization demonstrating your usable vocal range. A pianist will be provided.
  3. Sight-reading an exercise or two of moderate difficulty.
  4. Taking a short musicianship quiz that demonstrates your understanding of reading choral music.

In the 2024/25 season, the Nashville Symphony Chorus will be featured in numerous performances, including Handel’s Messiah, Vivaldi's The Four Seasons & Gloria, Ravel's Daphnis et Chloé, Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 ("Choral"), and Mahler's Symphony No. 8 (Symphony of a Thousand), among others.

REHEARSALS

The Nashville Symphony Chorus holds weekly Monday night rehearsals, from 7 to 9:15 p.m. August through June. Additional rehearsals may be scheduled depending on that season's concert schedule. Dress rehearsals are typically held at the venue where each concert will be performed.
