Parameswaran will also lead Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra

Nashville, Tenn. (April 3, 2017) – The Nashville Symphony announced today that Associate Conductor Vinay Parameswaran has been named Assistant Conductor of The Cleveland Orchestra, as well as Music Director of the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra. Parameswaran’s two-year term will start in August, when he begins work with Cleveland’s youth ensemble prior to the official start of The Cleveland Orchestra’s 2017/18 season in September.

“Vinay has been an invaluable asset during his tenure with the Nashville Symphony, expertly leading our orchestra in dozens of memorable performances, playing a central role in our community engagement and music education initiatives, and serving as an ambassador for our organization throughout Middle Tennessee,” said Nashville Symphony Music Director Giancarlo Guerrero. “Vinay’s commitment to helping shape the next generation of orchestra musicians will serve him well in his role as conductor of Cleveland’s youth orchestra, and I have no doubt that he will make just as much of an impact in Cleveland as he has done here in Nashville.”

“Vinay’s appointment to one of the most prestigious orchestras in the country — if not the world — speaks volumes about the caliber of talent and artistry we’ve recruited here at the Nashville Symphony,” added Nashville Symphony President & CEO Alan D. Valentine. “While we are all sorry to see him go, we are also incredibly proud of Vinay and wish him the best in the next chapter of his career.”

Parameswaran was appointed Assistant Conductor of the Nashville Symphony in February 2014 and promoted to Associate Conductor in August 2015. In his three-plus years with the Symphony, he has conducted classical and pops performances by the orchestra, as well as all of the organization’s annual summer Community Concerts. He has also worked closely with the Symphony’s education and community engagement team, conducting and developing programming for Young People’s Concerts and the Pied Piper Children’s Series.

As Cleveland’s Assistant Conductor, Parameswaran will serve as cover conductor for Severance Hall and Blossom Music Festival subscription concerts, and provide assistance to Music Director Franz Welser-Möst. He will also be actively involved with the orchestra’s many education programs and community performances.  As Music Director of the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra, Parameswaran will oversee the ensemble’s artistic planning, select personnel for the ensemble, and lead rehearsals and performances of the Youth Orchestra.
