PERFORMERS
Nashville Symphony

Giancarlo Guerrero, conductor
Ingrid Fliter, piano

PROGRAM
Chopin – Piano Concerto No. 1
The Earth – An HD Odyssey, featuring:
John Adams – Short Ride in a Fast Machine
            R. Strauss – Also sprach Zarathustra
  • Following the hugely successful performance of The Planets — An HD Odyssey, The Earth – An HD Odyssey is the second film in the series — this time focused on our own planet, with stunning high-definition images of Earth taken from NASA missions.
  • The featured music is John Adams’ electrifying Short Ride in a Fast Machine, which accompanies images of the space shuttle taking off, and Strauss’ epic tone poem Also sprach Zarathustra.
  • Also sprach Zarathustra is best known from its appearance in 2001: A Space Odyssey, where the opening of the piece is used to hugely dramatic effect. But the entire work is equally stunning — particularly when experienced live.
  • The New York Times said of The Earth — An HD Odyssey: “There is, of course, a film-score-like quality to [Strauss’] music, and combining it with imagery has been done before, though not…with such sophistication.”
  • Argentinean pianist Ingrid Fliter will perform Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 1, a rare chance to hear a work by one of the greatest piano composers in the history of classical music.
