Schumann – Symphony No. 1 “Spring”
John Harbison – Requiem  Live Recording

John Harbison is one of America’s most important contemporary composers, with an approachable style. His Requiem will feature the singers of the Nashville Symphony Chorus and will be recorded for future worldwide release.

  • Harbison began working on his Requiem right after 9/11. The composer says, "I wanted my piece to have a sense of the inexorability of the passage of time, for good and ill, of the commonality of love and loss."
  • The Requiem was commissioned by the Boston Symphony for the centennial of Symphony Hall, and has been rarely performed since then.
  • Schumann's Symphony No. 1 balances out this moving program with music that celebrates the vibrancy and joy of spring.

Our free Classical Conversations take place one hour before all Classical Series evening concerts in the Balcony Lobby. Led by conductors, guest artists and musicians, these informative talks are a great way to learn the story behind the music.
