AmSouth “Day of Music” Provides Community with Free Concerts at new Schermerhorn Symphony Center

The Nashville Symphony and AmSouth Bank present the AmSouth “Day of Music” on Saturday, October 7, 2006, at the Nashville Symphony’s new home, Schermerhorn Symphony Center, which opened on September 9 in the heart of downtown Nashville. The opening festivities will culminate in this day-long event providing the entire community the opportunity to tour the new concert hall and enjoy more than 35 concerts from 10 a.m. until midnight.

Guests that day can enjoy a wide variety of local music and talent performing in numerous locations throughout the Symphony Center. Concerts will take place in the Laura Turner Concert Hall, Curb Family Music Education Hall, the front lobby and the outside courtyard. Visitors also are welcome to explore the facility; and brunch, snacks or beverages will be available for purchase.

Participants in the AmSouth Day of Music include Nashville Symphony, ALIAS, Futureman, Fisk Jubilee Singers, Beegie Adiar Trio, Nashville Chamber Chorus and MET Singers. The evening will end with Rocket Town’s Battle of the Bands winner, “Wake the Day,” starting at 11:10 p.m. (complete schedule inserted below).

Valentine, President and CEO of the Nashville Symphony. “Thanks to AmSouth’s generous contribution, we are able to provide both an intimate look at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center and a taste of the wide variety of musical styles representative of our community.”

“We invite everyone to come out for this exceptional day of live music featuring some of our region’s most acclaimed and diverse talent,” said E.W. (Rusty) Stephenson Jr., Tennessee Banking Group Head for AmSouth and Nashville Symphony board member. “AmSouth is delighted to share the new Schermerhorn Symphony Center with the community, as it truly elevates musical performances to a higher level of excellence.”

The Nashville Symphony will perform in the Laura Turner Hall at 7:30 p.m. Additional concerts scheduled to take place in the Hall include the Nashville Choir and Nashville Praise Orchestra at noon, and Nashville Jazz Orchestra with Annie Selleck at 4:30 p.m.

Several colleges will also be on hand to showcase their talent. The Blair School of Music’s Suzuki Children’s Ensemble; Children’s Chorus; and Tuba Ensemble will perform. Belmont will also be well represented by their Jazz String Quartet, Bluegrass Ensemble and Musical Theater ensemble.

Tickets to AmSouth’s “Day of Music”, which are free, will be issued on site on October 7 beginning at 9:30 a.m., and each guest will receive one pass upon entering. Guests may stay as long as they like but are asked to return the pass when leaving so that other guests may enter.

Please note that free shuttle buses will be running between Schermerhorn Symphony Center’s AmSouth Day of Music and Scarritt-Bennett and Metro Parks’ Celebration of Cultures in Centennial Park. The buses will run approximately every 20 minutes from 10:30 am to 9 pm.
