Want to learn more about the music you hear at the Schermerhorn? These free, casual talks take place in the Schermerhorn's Balcony Lobby one hour before all SunTrust Classical Series concerts, offering concertgoers an opportunity engage in insightful discussions with composers, guest artists, conductors and Nashville Symphony musicians. You'll also be able to ask your own questions.
Every summer, the Nashville Symphony steps out of the concert hall for the Regions Community Concerts series, a yearly tradition that brings local parks alive with the sounds of fun, familiar tunes and beloved orchestral classics. Pack a picnic, bring the whole family and come hear the orchestra perform for FREE! Check back in the spring for a list of upcoming concerts in 2012.
This popular event invites the entire community to the Schermerhorn to enjoy free musical performances all day long and into the night. Part of the Nashville Symphony's mission to make our concert hall accessible to everyone, the FREE Day of Music features more than two dozen local ensembles, including some of the young musicians served by our education programs. Thanks to all who made our 2011 FREE Day of Music a huge success! Check back in the summer for details about our 2012 event.
A Nashville Symphony tradition since 1994. Presented on the Sunday before Martin Luther King Jr. Day, this concert commemorates the achievements of the civil rights movement with a dynamic program mixing classical music, spirituals and songs celebrating the triumph of the human spirit. Each year, the Nashville Symphony presents the Edwina Hefner Leadership Award to a Middle Tennessee resident in recognition for his or her outstanding service to the community. Admission to this concert is free. To accommodate demand for seats, ticket vouchers will be made available in early December. Call the Schermerhorn Symphony Center Box Office at 615.687.6400 for more information.
Every summer, the Nashville Symphony helps the city of Nashville celebrate Independence Day with a free concert in Riverfront Park. Enjoy lots of family fun and one of the best fireworks displays anywhere! For more information about this event, click here.
A wonderful — and free — opportunity to hear the next generation of classical musicians! Each year, the Curb Youth Symphony joins the Nashville Symphony for a performance at the Schermerhorn. Open by audition, the Curb Youth Symphony offers students in 8th through 12th grades the opportunity to work with members of the Nashville Symphony and faculty at Blair School of Music — and the Side-by-Side Concert is the culmination of their hard work over the past year. It also serves as a showcase for the grand prize winner of the Nashville Symphony's Curb Concerto Competition, which recognizes emerging musical talent from across the state.
Listen, learn and engage in lively dialogue with musicians and fellow music lovers at this free monthly event, which takes place on the stage of Laura Turner Concert Hall. An ensemble of orchestra musicians performs an informal concert, after which attendees are invited to ask questions and enjoy light refreshments. It's a wonderful way to get to know your Nashville Symphony musicians.
OnStage takes place monthly, and all events require reservations, which can be made online. Click here for more information.
An outgrowth of OnStage, the Nashville Symphony's OffStage program takes orchestra members out to local businesses, residences for the elderly and community centers, where the musicians create a meaningful bond with a whole new audience. If you'd like to host an OffStage event at your business or community center, please e-mail us or call us at 615.687.6398.
Part of the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center's Music in the Clinic program, this offering seeks to make a difference in the lives of cancer patients and their families. Members of the orchestra volunteer their time to perform for patients during chemotherapy treatment.
The Nashville Symphony's Speakers Bureau will gladly make a member of our staff available to discuss music and music education. Each year, we make visits to schools and local community groups to talk about symphony career paths, available programs, Schermerhorn Symphony Center and a variety of other topics.
You can request a speaker to visit any gathering. For more information, please email us or call us at 615.687.6398.
