Part Time Cook
Reports To: Sous Chef
Primary Responsibilities
- Assumes all duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Sous Chef and Executive Chef
- Prepares all menu items and garnish in an appealing and expedient manner, while adhering to the specified recipe card and budgeted food costs
- Observes and performs all SSC standards related to portion size, recipe, and presentation
- Identifies and selects cuts of meat, poultry, shellfish, fish, game or vegetables to be used for food production
- Selects and uses knives, hand tools, utensils and equipment to portion, cut, slice, dip, batter, bread, whip, beat, fry, sauté, or otherwise produce food on the line
- Observes and tests food being cooked by vision, tasting and smelling
- Ensures proper rotation of goods in the kitchen (FIFO-first in, first out)
- Alerts the Sous and Executive Chef with concerns on product freshness and quality
- Informs the Sous and Executive Chef of comments related to quality and service and of needs in the work area
- Projects products required for production needs
- Requests, number orders, receives and stocks food items as needed
- Ensures compliance with health and safety codes and maintains a sanitary work station
- Communicates effectively with peers & supervisors
- Exhibits a positive attitude and commits to a team effort
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required; degree from post-secondary culinary arts training program desired
- A minimum of two years of related experience in a commercial kitchen
- Must be able to work flexible hours (weekday mornings and weekends)
- Must demonstrate strong knowledge of food preparation and presentation
- Must be Food Safety certified
- Must be able to stand or walk for long periods of time
- Must be able to lift and maneuver up to twenty five (25) pounds.
- Must be honest, trustworthy and committed to excellent customer service
